The Democratic Republic of Congo president Felix Tshisekedi is on a three days working visit to Burundi where he is accompanied by DRC’s first lady Denise Nyakeru who landed in Bujumbura this Saturday.

“We are looking forward to cooperate with our neighbor Burundi in many aspects including agriculture, exchange of good practices and see how their army is so as we can take up the good practices from here,” said the DRC president Felix Tshisekedi.

The DRC president was welcomed with entertainment upon landing at the Melchior Ndadaye International Airport that included Burundi drummers and Congolese traditional dancers.

Hundreds of Burundians and Congolese residents in Burundi lined up on the streets to welcome president Tshisekedi’s second visit to Burundi with his last visit being back in 2019.

“I am grateful for the warm welcoming Burundi has given me and my delegation upon arrival and our visit will benefit both citizens of Burundi and DRC,” said president Tshisekedi while addressing the press at Ntare House in Bujumbura.

Burundi share border with Democratic Republic of Congo, with both countries now members of the East African Community. Peace and Security is said to be among the top on agenda of the three days visit according to the analysts as DRC is looking towards stability after decades of instability that has led hundreds losing their lives and hundreds of thousands fleeing the country.

During DRC’s president three days in Burundi, he is expected to visit the country’s capital Gitega where he will meet different agriculture cooperatives and is also expected to visit the tombs of the country’s former president Pierre Nkurunziza who passed on in 2020 after a cardiac arrest.
