Kadaga takes oath in the regional parliament

Uganda’s former speaker of the National Parliament Rebecca Kadaga who is currently first deputy prime minister and minister of EAC Affairs has been sworn in as an ex officio in the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) during a sitting in Arusha (Tanzania).

“I have come back to my roots…when I first joined government in 1996 I was appointed the minister for regional cooperation and part of my docket was EAC,” said Kadaga during her maiden speech in Arusha.

“I have come full circle and here I am back to see the integration process and I believe in the community and we shall work together to ensure that the treaty is implemented effectively at its fullest,” she added.

Kadaga served as the speaker of Ugandan parliament for two terms of five years each from May 19^th 2011- May 24^th 2021, Kadaga who contested for the third term as the speaker of Uganda’s parliament lost to Oulanyah Jacob earlier this month.

“I can testify that she was our leader when it came Issues of continents against another…issues that are so entrenched in our culture but which are promoted in a different way when we meet with our counterparts from the west. We always knew Hon. Kadaga would provide leadership to stand our ground as Africans and she did that very well,” said EALA speaker Martin Ngoga.

Kadaga is an advocate of the court of judicature in Uganda having been enrolled in 1982, the first woman to establish a law firm in Uganda.

Rebecca Kadaga served as a member of parliament in Uganda for 27 an interrupted years.ENDS.
