Burundi Prepares for 2025 Elections as Citizens Encouraged to Contribute

As preparations for the 2025 elections in Burundi advance, the Ministry of Interior, Community Development and Public Security has announced a call for voluntary contributions from citizens.

This initiative is said to aim on fostering public involvement in the electoral process, emphasizing the importance of a collaborative effort to ensure smooth and fair elections.

The government has established two dedicated bank accounts at the Bank of the Republic of Burundi for contributions: one for Burundian Francs (BIF) and another for foreign currencies.

This step reflects the administration’s commitment to engaging the community in the electoral process.

While the ministry encourages participation, it reassures citizens that contributions are entirely voluntary, addressing any potential concerns about obligation.

“This approach not only empowers the public but also underscores the role of citizen engagement in shaping the nation’s democratic future,” a statement reads from the Internal Affairs ministry.

As the election date approaches, this initiative could be a pivotal moment for Burundians to actively participate in the governance of their country.

This is not the first time the government announces a basket fund, in 2020 the government called on citizens, companies and organizations to voluntarily contribute to the country’s general elections.
