Burundi’s Ezechiel takes oath in the Regional Assembly

Burundi’s minister for East African Community (EAC) Ezechiel Nibigira has this Wednesday 30th September 2020 swear in as an ex-officio in the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) during the virtual sitting.

While taking oath Burundi’s minister vowed to cooperate and commit to work with the Regional Assembly for further fostering of the EAC integration process.

“As you know it is my first time I believe that I will work with my fellow honorable members to enhance the agenda of our community,” said Burundi’s minister during his maiden speech.

“Am determined to work with you as a team and we will continue to share our experiences…I bring my input I believe that I will receive more from you,” he added.

Mr. Ezechiel Nibigira is the former Burundi foreign affairs minister who served the office from 2018-2020, he was also the ambassador of Burundi in Kenya, former Member of Burundi Parliament chairing the Committee of Finance.

According to Article 48 of the treaty establishing the EAC, the membership of the assembly shall comprise of nine members elected by each Partner State, and ex-officio members consisting of Ministers responsible for East African Community affairs from each Partner State.

And the Assistant Minister or Deputy Minister or Minister of State responsible for East African Community affairs from each Partner State: Provided that an Assistant Minister, Deputy Minister or Minister of State may only participate in the meetings of the Assembly when the substantive Minister responsible for East African Community affairs is for any reason unable to participate; and lastly the Secretary General and the Counsel to the Community.
