Burundi’s men national football team Intamba mu Rugamba has shown the new face under the new management after winning two and drawing one from their last three matches which includes two matches from the 2021 AFCON qualifiers.
After the 3-1 victory against Mauritania, Burundi’s new head coach Jimmy Ndayizeye indicated that determination and confidence of the players played a key role for the victory.
“The return of Saidi Ntibazonkiza and the arrival of Marco Weymans improve the squad depth so we are determined to win the remaining AFCON matches against Central Africa and Morocco,” he added.
Burundians defeated Mauritania last Sunday November 11, 2020 in the 2021 AFCON qualifiers at Intwari stadium in Bujumbura.
“We congratulate Intamaba murugamba as well as all Burundians who participated, we thank the president of the republic and the sponsors,”said Reverien Ndikuriyo country’s Football Federation president.
The president of Burundi Football Federation (FFB) promised 4 million BIF for a win against the Mourabitounes.
Burundi’s swallows had lost its first two games of the 2021 AFCON matches against Morocco and Central African Republic under the management of Olivier Niyungeko aka Mutombola.
However with the statistics showing a gray improvement of the team’s performance under the new coach Jimmy Ndayizeye, football fans in Burundi have gained a glimmer of hope for their country to qualify for the second time in the continent’s most prestigious football tournament in 2022.
