Kellia Kaneza Crowned Miss Burundi 2025 in Grand Ceremony

BUJUMBURA — Kellia Kaneza Lagloire was crowned Miss Burundi 2025 during the national pageant’s final ceremony held on July 25 at Cercle Hippique in Bujumbura.

The event, organized by INGO S.A., marked a renewed focus on cultural heritage and youth empowerment, following previous criticisms of the competition’s relevance and structure. This year’s edition integrated traditional dance into contestants’ preparation, in collaboration with Intatana, a well-known Burundian cultural troupe.

Kaneza, representing Bujumbura, won a prize package that includes 25 million Burundian francs, a Skyline electric vehicle, a university scholarship in Ethiopia, a round-trip plane ticket, a laptop, and a smartphone.

Four additional titles were awarded:

  • Quessia Kubwarugira was named first runner-up.
  • Tania Bazahica was second runner-up.
  • Monica Celeste Mugisha received the Miss Popularity title.
  • Nelly Charlène Iteka was awarded Miss Development.
  • Jennifer Mugisha was named Miss Photogenic.

Fifteen finalists competed in the 2025 edition, which included regional auditions and evaluations. The competition saw one finalist, Kenguruka Delia Chainese Ketina, withdraw in late June due to health reasons. Organizers publicly acknowledged her departure in an official statement.

The final event was attended by government officials, diplomats, and members of the public. First Lady Angeline Ndayishimiye, who was present, addressed the audience and emphasized the role of women in national development.

Miss Burundi 2025 is expected to participate in cultural, educational, and social initiatives throughout her tenure, and may represent the country at international forums.

This year’s edition follows efforts to revamp the pageant after a period of inactivity and public criticism over transparency and management. Organizers say they intend to continue building the platform as a space for youth expression and national representation.
