Atleast 20 people were killed including 12 children by unknown armed group in Gatumba (Burundi) near the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo.
According to the Burundian government, the attack took place on Friday night in Bujumbura province.
“12 children including 05 under 05 years of age, 03 women including 02 pregnant, 05 adult men including 01 police officer who intervened to rescue civilians,” said Jérôme Niyonzima the Burundi government spokesperson while addressing the press in Bujumbura this Saturday.
The Burundi government said that 9 people were critically injured during the attack, “investigations are already underway to identify terrorists and bring them to justice.
The Government of Burundi condemns this terrorist, despicable and barbaric act directed against civilian and innocent populations,” part of the statement reads from the Burundi government.
