Burundi: Muslim leaders call for inclusion in government strategic positions

During the meeting with Burundi’s President Evariste Ndayishimiye last week in the country’s capital Gitega, Muslim leaders called on the president to include more Muslims in government strategic positions.

“Muslims occupy positions of responsibility like everyone else. As for the positions of ambassadors there are procedures to follow before accessing these positions and a good number of Muslims are civil servants in several diplomatic and consular missions,” said Burundi President Evariste Ndayishimiye.

President Ndayishimiye met Muslim leaders with the aim of discussing their role on the implementation of the country’s development vision 2040-2060.

According to the Muslim leaders during the meeting, the Muslim community plays a critical role in the development of the country through cooperatives, and other sectors.
