Flambeau du Centre Wins 2025 Burundi President’s Cup

Gitega, May 24 — Flambeau du Centre FC emerged victorious in the 2025 edition of the Burundi President’s Cup after edging out Musongati FC 1-0 in a tightly contested final at Ingoma Stadium on Saturday.

A 77th-minute strike from Faustin Likua Kitoko proved decisive, as the forward expertly converted a free kick opportunity to seal the win for Flambeau du Centre and deny Musongati a domestic double.

The final, played before a capacity crowd, was graced by the President of the Republic of Burundi, Évariste Ndayishimiye, alongside several high-ranking dignitaries. The electrifying atmosphere in Gitega underscored the growing stature of the annual competition.

Both teams entered the match with clear attacking intent, but the first half ended goalless as missed chances and resolute defending dominated proceedings. Musongati, runners-up in the 2024/25 Primus Burundi Premier League, mounted late pressure in search of an equalizer but were repeatedly thwarted by Flambeau’s disciplined back line.

The final whistle sparked jubilant celebrations for Flambeau du Centre, who not only lifted the prestigious domestic trophy but also secured qualification for the 2024/25 TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup.

During the post-match awards ceremony, President Ndayishimiye presented medals, symbolic cheques, and the President’s Cup trophy in a vibrant display that highlighted the significance of football in Burundi’s sporting culture.
