Inter-parliamentary games kicks-off in Kigali

The 13th EAC Inter-parliamentary games officially kicked off in Rwanda’s capital Kigali this Friday December 8th, 2023. The annual sports event gathered more than 1000 parliamentarians from six member states of Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and South Sudan.

“Today we are officially opening the inter-parliamentary games and we thank the republic of Rwanda having given us the warm hospitality,” said the EALA Speaker Joseph Ntakirutimana.

According to Article 49 of the Treaty for the Establishment of the East African Community, “the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) shall among other things liaise with the Parliaments of the Partner States on matters relating to the Community.”

This includes the Inter- Parliamentary Games (IPG) an annual sports event coordinated by the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).

The IPG play a fundamental role in enabling EALA’s interaction with members of the national parliaments, staff and citizens of East Africa.

The 13th IPG which is being hosted Rwanda will take place in Kigali City from 8th – 18* December 2023. The sports disciplines include: Football, Netball, Athletics, Tug-of-War, Volleyball, Walk race, Golf, Basketball and Darts.

The overall objective of the tournament is to create networking and interaction between regional parliamentarians and the EAC citizens.
