Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda shine in CHAN 2024 Quarter-Finals

The TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 has entered its knockout stage, with East Africa firmly in the spotlight after Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda all booked their places in the last eight. The historic co-hosting by the three nations has kept stadiums packed and the “Pamoja” theme alive, with fans set for another round of high-intensity football this weekend.

Kenya’s Fairytale Run Continues
Debutants Kenya have emerged as one of the tournament’s biggest stories. The Harambee Stars topped Group A after Ryan Ogam’s late strike secured a 1-0 win over Zambia, sealing their place at the summit with 10 points. Benni McCarthy’s side conceded just once in four matches, showing remarkable discipline at the back. They now face Madagascar on Friday at Kasarani, with home fans daring to believe the underdogs can go even further.

Tanzania and Uganda Deliver Historic Moments
Tanzania’s Taifa Stars matched Kenya’s tally, cruising through Group B with three wins and a draw. Their attacking football has turned heads, but they now brace for a stern test against two-time champions Morocco in Dar es Salaam. Meanwhile, Uganda finally broke their quarter-final jinx after six failed attempts. Rogers Torach’s stoppage-time penalty against South Africa sparked wild celebrations in Kampala, as the Cranes secured top spot in Group C with seven points. They now face reigning champions Senegal in what is expected to be one of the tournament’s biggest nights at Mandela National Stadium.

Zanzibar Hosts Group D Drama
In Zanzibar, Sudan and Senegal played out a tense 0-0 draw to advance from Group D. Sudan, unbeaten under Kwesi Appiah, claimed first place on goal difference, while Senegal settled for second. Sudan will remain in Zanzibar to face Algeria on Saturday afternoon, before the spotlight shifts to Kampala for Uganda’s clash with the Lions of Teranga.
