Burundi soldier gunned down by a policeman

“After twice insulted, beaten and disarmed by the soldier in civilian clothes and insulting the prosecutor the policeman from the public prosecutor shot dead the soldier in self-defense,”- Burundi’s police spokesman Pierre Nkurikiye.

A Burundian soldier Ndihokubwayo Alexis was shot dead by a policeman on May 22 at ‘Quiet Hotel located on Bujumbura-Bubanza road, according to the Burundi police the police shot the soldier in self-defense.

“After twice insulted, beaten and disarmed by the soldier in civilian clothes and insulting the prosecutor the policeman from the public prosecutor shot dead the soldier in self-defense,” said Burundi’s police spokesman Pierre Nkurikiye.

According to the Burundian authorities the soldier was driving a car (probox) while over speeding and overtaking cars which risked other people’s lives, “the police and the prosecutor asked him why he was misbehaving on public roads that’s where the fracas started,” said Mr. Nkurikiye.

The Burundian government said that an investigation has been launched on the incident, the body of the soldier was later transferred to Bujumbura mortuary.
