Taliban blocks further evacuation of Afghans

Taliban has announced it will no longer allow further evacuations of Afghans from the country. The Taliban government Spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the move was taken to ensure situation of those already abroad improves.

Mujahid told a news conference that the government had noted that the situation of some of the Afghans evacuated were living in deplorable conditions in various countries that evacuated them when Taliban swept into power.

“The government has the responsibility to protect the people so this will be stopped until we get the assurance that their lives will not be endangered,”he said.

More than 120,000 Afghans were evacuated in August 31 when the last US troops pulled out of Kabul to let Taliban take over control of the country. But thousands more are reported to be ready to leave the country but have been blocked by the Taliban.
