CAF Opens Investigation Into Quarterfinal Incidents at AFCON Morocco 2025

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has strongly condemned what it described as unacceptable behavior by players and officials during two quarterfinal matches at the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 and has opened a formal investigation into the incidents.

In a statement issued on Monday, CAF confirmed it had reviewed official match reports and video evidence related to the quarterfinal fixtures between Cameroon and Morocco, as well as Algeria and Nigeria. The governing body said the materials indicate potentially inappropriate conduct by some players and team officials.

CAF said the matters have been referred to its Disciplinary Board for further investigation and possible sanctions. Appropriate action will be taken if individuals involved are found guilty of breaching CAF regulations, the statement said.

In addition to on-field incidents, CAF disclosed it is also reviewing video footage of an alleged altercation involving members of the media in the mixed zone area following one of the matches.

“CAF strongly condemns any inappropriate behavior that occurs during matches, particularly conduct directed at match officials or organizers,” the statement said. “Such behavior is inconsistent with the standards of professionalism expected at CAF competitions.”

The Africa Cup of Nations is the continent’s premier international tournament, and CAF emphasized its commitment to maintaining discipline, respect and integrity throughout the competition. Further details will be communicated once the disciplinary process has concluded.
